To-Do or not To-Do-that is the question

Posted on November 12, 2008

I;m writing this blog post. I hope Blake over at I hate stairs has time to read it, it’s a late submission to the disability blog carnival. My computer was in the repair shop.

I heard from a friend today I had not talked to in forever and it made my week!I have known her since Jr, High and I still am comfortable with her! That was a couple of moons ago. Hi Erin!

Now that the necessities are done, I can start blogging. As you can tell, I am not the worlds most organized person. Also memory is an issue as is for any person with a head injury. Therefore, to-do lists are a way of life for us.

Good thing I don’t have children.I would need post-it notes to remember their names! Only kidding Junior

So instead of posting my grocery list, things I have to do, or even doctors appointments. I thought I would write on the one thing which motivates us to keep slowly working on our to -do list.

That is (drumroll please!) The big, fat checkmark of satisfaction. Don’t you find yourself completing a task on your to-do List just to be able to add a check mark next to it.To see your to do list growing ever ta done?

This is the feeling of satisfaction, or fulfillment, even accomplishment. As disabled people, sometimes we cannot look for better than that for balm for our scattered self-esteem.

At least that is a place to start from. If we know that getting things on a list done is a boost to self esteem, we can start with things we are able to accomplish like everyday living tasks. What about you? Am I weird or does a list accomplished give you a sense of accomplishment?

I do love that feeling! Sometimes I think I actually make the lists just to get to cross them off:) It’s nice to feel productive!

Z you are still that same funny girl…my best friend in junior high! It is good to be in touch again. And yes, I like crossing things off the list too. Sometimes I procastinate by doing all the easy stuff, and putting off the stuff that I don’t want to do. It is satisfying to see things getting done.
